Ka-Pow! Comic Book Theme Party

This polka dot comic book theme cake by Southern Belle's Charms caught my eye this morning.

She created a comic-book party for her husband, but I know you will be inspired by her ideas for little boys too!

Natalie made the gorgeous cake and cupcake toppers - they all say "BAM!" and "Bang!" and "Ka-Boom!"

I love how she used coordinating scrapbook papers and cardstocks to decorate the top of her cake. Fantastic!

Polka Dot Party Centerpiece Ideas

Ispiration...from Country Living party table decor.

I am in love with this polka dot ribbon-wrapped glass vase (above). Grab any vase, bucket or even a coffee can and wrap with ribbons in your party colors. Hot glue the ribbon ends to the container or use strong shipping tape or E6000 craft glue. The pink and red flowers above compliment the ribbons perfectly. Fresh flowers always make ANY table pretty! Just don't forget to tie a ribbon (or 12) around the flower container too. It will make all the difference.

This was just too pretty not to share. You can cut triangles out of paper or fabric (with pinking shears) to create your own party garland. String over your gift table or dessert table for that WOW! factor sure to bring your party theme together.


There are so many fabrics and papers in the craft stores these days that you can just stand in the aisles for hours (and I do). See which colors and patterns grab your eye, start pulling ones you like and create your party theme right there in the store. There are lots of polka dot papers and fabrics too - coordinate your "bugs" or "butterflies" or "cupcakes" or "monkeys" theme with a cute polka dot ribbon, fabric or paper.


Check Polka Dot Market for plates, cups and napkins (and polka dot balloons!) to help put the finishing touches on your theme.




This last photo is really inspiring. Look closely at the flower containers. They are painted soup and coffee tin cans!


I just love this. The craft and hardware stores now even sell tiny tester jars of paint that would be perfect for this project. Head to the store with your fabric, paper or ribbon scraps in hand. Or bring along a pack of your polka dot napkins.


Match up with one or two paint swatches to tie your theme together. Head home and wash and prime your cans. Paint, let dry. For extra fun - tie a polka dot ribbon bow or knot around your finished cans. Fill with white daisies or your favorite flower and you're done!

DIY - Make a Polka Dot Box Tower for your Cupcakes

Look what my buddy Amanda over at Imperfectly Beautiful has come up with!

Her creative juices are FLOWING!

Guess what? She made this monogrammed cupcake stand out of cardboard boxes she grabbed from her garage (the after-Christmas morning pile).

Now you can make a variation for your own polka dot birthday party, baby shower or girls' night out!

Amanda says she is happy to share her tips with you:

1. Go out to the garage and find 2-3 boxes to build your "tower".

2. Wrap your boxes in polka dot wrapping paper (see below), kraft paper or any paper you have on had to match your color scheme.

3. Grab more tape and and make a "ribbon belt" for your boxes.

4. Print your name circles (or squares) from the computer, cut out and tape to larger colored circles (use your 3-initial monogram, name or spell, "Happy 3rd Birthday" or "Welcome Baby").

5. Stack your finished boxes.

6. Pile on the cupcakes and take a photo!
